A Matter Of Life And Death  - by Clinton Jarbeau

Shamanic consultations occur for many purposes- financial, health, future considerations, personal guidance, am I possessed... it’s difficult to think of a subject upon which I haven’t been consulted, including situations where the client has a short time to live unless something or Some One intervenes.

I’m not fond of those situations for one very simple reason. Too often, the family is shopping for a miracle, and very often such a miracle is not what’s needed. What is needed is support for the client who may be electing to make the journey at this time. There can be no guarantees of outcome up front.

Let me spend a line or two explaining. I have attended, as an observer, several live births which have taken place out of hospitals, in private homes, mostly. I am invited as spiritual support by people who would rather have a shaman than a priest. At such times, I have my ‘second sight’ turned on full, and the first birth I witnessed taught me a very important thing that I won’t be taking in to a school of obstetrics any time soon. The truth is that the soul of the child moves the mother’s energy body out of the way, steps into the driver’s seat and births itself.

Take a second or two and re-read that last bit. ...steps into the driver’s seat and births itself.

Take note that it is the soul of the infant which drives the whole event. It’s that way at birth, and from what I’ve seen, it’s that way at the end. You may trust me on this point. The soul enters the body after the child is on the ground, when the child gives a long in-breath. The soul leaves at death by a long out-breath often called a ‘death rattle.’

This accounts for a phenomenon long noticed by medical doctors and medicine men alike. I’m not sure of the statistic any more, but it’s roughly sixty percent of patients respond to treatment, no matter what the treatment is, and forty percent do not. Ever hear of the ‘placebo effect?"

About sixty percent of patients respond as well to a doctor’s suggestion that this pill will clear up the problem, even if the pill is a sugar pill, a placebo which has no medical properties what so ever. As the old medicine man said, ‘sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.’

Her sister Joan telephoned to say Lydia was dying of cancer and to ask if I could do anything. Lydia was in hospital and not expected to live more than a couple of weeks at best.

After we spoke a bit, I suggested Joan come along to see me the next day. She was to bring a lock of Lydia’s hair, clippings from her fingernails and a recent photograph.

The best time to work energetically, magically, shamanically against cancer is in the afternoon, better again if the full moon is waning. (Trust me, it just is.)

So Joan and her brother and Lydia’s mom show up, and I have been thinking of all these considerations stated above. The first thing I need to know is whether these folks want a miracle or not. Turns out they are comfortable with Lydia moving on, if that’s what has to be. They don’t like it especially, as Lydia is a wonderful sister and a caring person, but if that’s what is called for, they will support it, with sadness in their hearts.

The first step was to journey shamanically to speak with Lydia’s spirit. I convey the information that her family loves her and wants her to stay with them. The rest of the conversation was private, but in the end, Lydia tells me that she will let her will be known before sunset on Sunday, two days from now.

We performed a prayer ritual using a medicine wheel and some diverting of energy which is like radionics, an often de-bunked method of transferring energy which nonetheless works very well, since the method doesn’t care that science says it’s impossible.

When the ritual was over and the energy had transferred, I re-stated what Lydia told me. She’d let her will be known before sunset on Sunday.

Next day, more family members were in attendance at the hospital. I demonstrated how to transfer energy to a sick person, cautioning that the energy should be given with no strings attached. In other words, the soul might just as well utilize the energy to leave as to stay. I was very clear on that point.

Lydia appeared to recover slightly, however. There was a slight pink in her cheeks and she was much more animated, with less pain than formerly as I left her with her family. We agreed that we’d wait until her soul had made the decision.

Shortly after sunset on Sunday, I telephoned Lydia’s mother to find out what Lydia’s decision had been. Quietly, and without pain or undue suffering, Lydia had passed from this life at six fifteen PM, local time. A few moments before sunset.
